This study aimed to develop an online financial education program for preschool and elementary school students to nurture financial literacy. For this purpose, the authors adopted a reading-based methodology and developed educational materials for learners, including workbooks and activity kits related to each storybook. Moreover, synchronous online classes with quizzes, discussions, and activities were designed based on a storybook. The implication of this study is to propose the usefulness of a reading-based methodology in financial education and an online education model that supports financial education at home.

Process of SAM

To design effective online financial education, online education was designed using the Successive Approximation Model (SAM). SAM is a systematic instructional design model used to develop educational and training programs.

Activity Kit

In Iterative Development Phase, total 9 activity kits were developed by connecting to important financial-related topics in the book; they were delivered to students participating in online classes every month. At the end of every online class, students made activity kits with teachers.

SQ3R Workbook (Sample)

The SQ3R workbooks that the students and parents could use after reading the books were also designed. Since the workbook was to be used with students and parents before participating in synchronous online classes, a guidebook for parents was also designed
